Five years after she went missing on her way back from school on July 23, 2014, Ikimot Awojoju has returned home to her family in the Oyingbo area of Lagos .
It was gathered that Ikimot lived with her guardian Ajoke Abbas after the death of her mother, Faidat Awojoju.
Abass said she sold her valuables to raise the money needed to search for her but all efforts to find her proved abortive. After two years, she stopped searching but kept on praying for the safe return of the girl.
The guardian also said she could not recognize Ikimot initially when she returned, but her memory was refreshed after a good look at her.
Ikimot reportedly helped the police to arrest her captor, a woman called Christiana Onuchukwu who initially claimed to be the girl’s mother, but failed to provide evidence (childhood photos and birth certificate) when asked by the police.
It was reported that another child was also recovered from the suspected abductor who eventually confessed to the police to have bought the children for N350,000 each, but failed to reveal the identity of the person who sold the children to her.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti said investigation into the matter was ongoing.
